La dynamique du mouvement

Motor Learning (Undergraduate)

How we learn and stabilize new sensori-motor skills is the essence of the course.

Learning is essential for human beings, in virtually all possible contexts, including education (e.g., school), recreation (e.g., sport, music) or the professional contexts (e.g., practicing surgery, driving a truck, etc).

What are the mechanisms by which learning is possible, what are the conditions for facilitating or accelerating the acquisition of skills, and what are the main theories of learning, are fundamental questions addressed in the course.

Outline:

  • What is learning?
  • Characteristics of sensori-motor skills and their change with learning
  • Discontinuities, stages, and general laws of learning
  • Facilitating learning
  • Theories of learning
    - Cognitive/Computational approach to learning
    - Neurophysiological approach to learning
    - Ecological approach to learning
    - Dynamical approach to learning
  • Transfer of learning
  • Development and learning
